The Chocolate Block 2008 - Limited Offer

I am very lucky to have been offered a tiny amount of the eagerly awaited 2008 vintage of ‘The Chocolate Block’ from Boekenhoutskloof the cult Cape winery run by top winemaker Marc Kent.

Boekenhoutskloof ‘The Chocolate Block’ 2008 // £114.00 per six-pack inc. VAT

Because of the limited availability - only 10 six-packs - orders will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Please let me know as soon as possible if you would like to place an order. (More details below.)

Also available are 2 six-packs each of their wonderful and equally scarce Semillon and Syrah – please ask me for more details.

Many thanks

Stuart

The Chocolate Block 2008
Contrary to popular belief there is no grated chocolate added but it is made from a blend of Syrah (69%); Grenache noir (12%); Cabernet Sauvignon (10%); Cinsault (7%) and Viognier (2%). The Syrah comes from dry farmed vineyards in Malmesbury with its unique growing conditions and to ensure it deep-rooted vines and therefore optimal concentration of colour, flavour and tannin structure. The Grenache noir (from some of the oldest in the country) is sourced from Citrusdal with its very sandy soils and perfect terroir for ripening this grape varietal. This batch was matured in 600L barrels to retain the unmistakable fruit and freshness on the cultivar. The Cabernet Sauvignon and Viognier come from the organically farmed vineyards of Boekenhoutskloof and the Cinsault is from old bush vines on decomposed granite soils on Welbedacht in Wellington. The wine matures in 2-3 year old French oak barrels for 15 months before it gets a light egg-white fining.
Winemaker, Marc Kent’s notes: The wine shows typical Malmesbury Syrah flavours on the nose with intense spicy notes which is supported by ripe plum, black fruit and violet aromas. The wine has a grippy acidity and well integrated tannins with a well textured and rounded mouth feel. The long, elegant and succulent finish with superb structure from the Cabernet Sauvignon leads us to believe that this wine has at least 8 years of aging potential.

Thursday Wine Offer

Please find herewith today’s wine offer featuring an old favourite – Constantia Uitsig. Familiar to many of you, these are some of the Cape’s most elegant and mineral, cool climate styled whites. The Chardonnay is refreshing, clean and crisp. The Sauvignon has classic nettle fruit with a white asparagus finish and the Semillon is just delicious – lemony, waxy, creamy and a stoney finish.

Then the excellent Boschkloof Reds from Cape Winemaker’s Guild Jacques Borman. The latest Cabernet and Merlot vintage release, 2006, expresses pure varietal character of ripe cassis with chocolate and plumy opulence, but with great balance and well-judged oak spice. The flagship wine, Conclusion, is now getting into it's stride after a couple of years in bottle. A must-have for the classic collector; it has a long life ahead of it.

With kind regards,

Stuart
