I had the opportunity to try the wines of Il Borghetto in Tuscany a few years ago having got to know their winemaker well and have been an avid follower of their excellent wines ever since. The estate makes exceptional wines which reflect Tuscany but also a fresh and modern approach to winemaking. Antonio Galloni from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate has agreed wholeheartedly in the last issue, writing:
“Il Borghetto was one of the most pleasant discoveries in my tastings of the wines of Chianti Classico. The estate is quickly establishing itself as one of Tuscany’s hottest new properties. British oenologist Tim Manning worked previously at Dujac in Burgundy and Cristom in Oregon, and not surprisingly his wines reflect a similar aesthetic. Manning makes some of the most exceptionally balanced, harmonious wines in Tuscany in a style that favors a fairly rich expression of fruit. At their finest, the wines recall great Pinot in their weightless and effortless grace. Simply put, I can’t recommend these wines highly enough.”
I am very happy to offer two vintages of their Bilaccio, one for drinking now and one for storing for a few years until it reaches maturity. Please find the details
below.
Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions.

IL BORGHETTO
Chianti Classico Bilaccio 2004, Il Borghetto – £111.00 In Bond // £150.00 inc. VAT per case of 12 bottles – Available Now
This wine has really come into its own over the past few months having had 4 years in bottle. Lovely cherry and raspberry fruit nose with a hint of spice and ripe, warming fruit on the palate which combines lovely structure and texture. Almost Burgundian. This will be one of the best Chiantis you ever drink!
Chianti Classico Bilaccio Riserva 2006, Il Borghetto - £150.00 In Bond – Delivery November 2009
As of the 2006 vintage, the Bilaccio cuvée is now a “riserva” bottling and receives a longer time in oak and bottle before release. This is a great vintage and a great wine. Lovely dark red fruit nose with spice and herb notes. The palate is structured yet svelte, with lovely raspberry fruit on the finish. Will be gorgeous in 3 years.
“The 2006 Chianti Classico Riserva Bilaccio blossoms onto the palate with gorgeous perfumed red fruit, tobacco, leather, licorice and herbs. The wine possesses superb richness in an expansive style, with a long, utterly sublime finish. This 100% Sangiovese spent 18 months in French oak. Sadly, there are only 7,000 bottles to go around. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2021. 92 points.” Antonio Galloni, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
